Force majeure

"I think", said a person commenting recently on government action on the financial crisis, "that it will make a very major difference".

'Major' doesn't mean 'big', it means 'bigger' or 'comparatively big'. So you can't 'make a very major difference' any more than you can 'commit a very bigger grammatical error'.
