A miscellaneous compilation of articles and off-the-cuff ideas, mostly relating to the English Language and its words, and how well they are used on some occasions, and how badly on others. But other topics and whimsies are likely to keep cropping up too. This blog is closely related to the website mentioned below.

New Boy on the Blog

I MUST INTRODUCE MYSELF as a Jack of All Trades and Master of None. This blog is likely to cover such varied topics as English Language, Wildlife, History, and a whole host of other things. But it is in some ways a spin-off from my website The Merry Pedant.

The Merry Pedant
has been a year-long experiment, and now consists of a website of twelve main pages, each comprising twelve or so 'articles' relating in some way to the English Language, English Words, and Writing, good and bad. There are also some light-hearted attempts at Parody, occasional bits of frivolous Verse, and some Crossword clues. But having completed a run of twelve monthly pages, and carefully indexed them (forming a thirteenth page) I have decided that for the next year or so we'll have a blog.

This would cover much the same subject matter as the Merry Pedant website, with other topics added as they arise, maybe a few entries each week or two: and then if any of these seem appropriate they can later be transferred to The Merry Pedant site for safe keeping. Meanwhile if anyone who happens to alight on this page would like to have a look at The Merry Pedant, they can click on www.themerrypedant.me.uk now.
